Brazil celebrates the 96th anniversary of Lithuanian Independence Featured

The 2014 celebration of Lithuanian Independence Day took place on February 16. It was organized by the Lithuanian community in Brazil, chaired by Waldemar Maliska Sidaravicius. The event program began with placing flowers in the Republic of Lithuania Square in honor of all Lithuanians who fought for the independence of the country, and followed with a Mass and cultural performances. More than 300 people attended the celebration.

Lithuanian Consul General Laura Guobužaitė was invited to the stage to deliver remarks. Guobužaitė spoke about the importance of Lithuania’s February 16 Declaration of Independence, which has led to the development of the free and independent Lithuanian nation of today.

“We are proud not only of our nation’s distinguished past, but also of our successful current progress,” Guobužaitė said.

After the “Official” part of the program the Lithuanian choir and folk dance groups Nemunas and Rambynas performed several colorful folk dances and songs, to much applause.
