Revolutions in Eastern Europe: The Rise of Democracy, 1989–1990

Written by

The Hoover Institution's newest exhibition, Revolutions in Eastern Europe: The Rise of Democracy, 1989-1990, features several images of Lithuania's role.

One of them, a Lithuanian poster, shows part of the Baltic Way, a human chain of some two million people that stretched from Lithuania, across Latvia, to Estonia on August 23, 1989. The event protested the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact (enacted fifty years earlier) and called for renewed independence for Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Free of charge to the public, the exhibit is open until August 16 (Tuesday through Saturday) at Herbert Hoover Memorial Pavilion Museum next to Stanford's Hoover Tower.
