Just how blonde is Lithuania?

The stereotype of Lithuanians as blondes is not completely unfounded and light hair is very common in Lithuania as well as in other parts of the Baltic Sea region. As seen in this map above, only the south-eastern part of Lithuania is less blonde, probably due to the prevalence of Polish and Belarusian people. However, Lithuanians are not as blonde as some people in the central parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland, where at least 80 % of the population is fair-haired, the highest figure in all of Europe. This map seems to capture certain degree of ethnic variations inside of Lithuania and other countries really well, often with a possible historical explanation.
