The EU-wide competition challenged students to produce artwork that would express their views on the issue, capturing the role migrants play in their lives.
The European Jury, made up of communication, art and media professionals as well as individuals from migrant communities, has selected the artwork ‘just know who you are’, created by Sandra Sinkevičiūtė, a Kaunas Applied Art School student, as one of 27 finalist for the ’Migrants in Europe’ awards.
Presenting her artwork for the competition, Sinkevičiūtė explained the message hidden within her poster “just know who you are”.
“Migration is not a bad thing, because then you have opportunity to discover each other and to know who you are. So old snickers (photographer Andrius Dambrauskas) and names of cities symbolizes all that searching and growing at the same time.”
The Jury will award three prizes in October, choosing one winner from each category: video, poster and photo.
The schools whose students win first prizes in the three categories and the first prize in the public vote will receive an award of €10,000 each, to be used for educational purposes.
