After a great Lithuanian song festival in Chicago, now it's time to DANCE! On Sunday, July 3, 2016, thousands will gather from around the world in Baltimore, MD for the 15th North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival.
Robert Gates, the former Secretary of Defense under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and newly elected President of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), congratulated Lithuanian scouts on 65th anniversary of scouting for Lithuanian immigrant on four continents.

A golden flaxen thread connects almost every Lithuanian-American to one of the most important folk ways of our immigrant ancestors: the “homespun” production of linen clothes, sheets, bedspreads and towels.
Here is a link to the post and the chart that shows the lexical distance — that is, the degree of overall vocabulary divergence — among the major languages of Europe. You will see that Lithuanian is a member of the Baltic group within the Indo-European family, and quite a distant one from other languages. Very cool!

A thoughtful reader sent us a cloud of the most popular Lithuanian swear words and phrases and their English translations. Hmmmmm. A very useful tip for those who wanted to teach their non-lithuanian friends to swear in Lithuanian.But what other, if any, conclusions would you draw from this information? Lithuanian swear words are rather mild compared to other languages. Maybe that is the reason why Lithuanians still keep using the dirty/vulgar swear words borrowed from the Slavic languages.
