In the realm of politics, people are drawn to a cause by something greater than themselves.  Some people are driven by issues, hardships, egos, or self-discoveries. In my case, I grew interested in politics - particularly American conservatism - because of my heritage and family history. I belong to the group of nearly one million Americans claiming partial Lithuanian descent. As a first-generation American, I honor my Lithuanian roots in all that I do – particularly politics. Chicago Mayor Emanuel receives Lithuanian award

On November 21st , Ambassador Žygimantas Pavilionis of Lithuania to the United States conferred the award of honor of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Lithuanian Diplomacy Star – on  Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago.

Mayor Emanuel received the award for his outstanding dedication to advancing bilateral relations between ‘Sister Cities’ Chicago and Vilnius.

Vladas Vildziunas

Vladas Vildziunas, reknowned and revered sculptor of "Barbora" in Vilnius, "Three Kings" in Kaunas, "Ciurlionis" in Druskininkai, and many other works, scion of the Lithuanian art community, has died. Vladas has created some of the most influential and important monumental works in Lithuania to date. Titled Honored Artist of Lithuania in 1982, his work has since been exhibited in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and many major cities around Europe.

Mrs. Svaja Vansauskas Worthington has been appointed recently as a Lithuanian Honorary Consul for the State of Alaska. She was born into a prominent family in Lithuania, but grew up in the United States. Svaja did not see her home country until 1999, more than 50 years after leaving it during the war, when she returned for her grandparents’ and aunt’s reburial ceremony. She has made many trips to it since then, always feeling a strong attachment to its people and land.
